Skill level definitions
Brand New Skater: Just learning to skate; little to no hockey experience.
Beginner: Can skate but has minimal experience with hockey skills (stopping, passing, shooting).
Novice: Some skating ability; familiar with basic hockey rules and skills but still developing.
Developing Player: Can skate comfortably; has a basic understanding of positions and game flow.
Intermediate: Competent skater with some game experience; can pass and shoot with moderate accuracy.
Competent Player: Good skating ability; played recreationally and understands team strategies.
Advanced Player: Strong skating skills; played in youth leagues and has solid fundamentals.
High School Player: Competed at the high school level; skilled in various positions and game situations.
Experienced Player: Played competitively beyond high school (e.g., club, junior, or semi-pro leagues).
Collegiate Player: Played at the college level; highly skilled, experienced in competitive hockey.
Homer Jamboree Rules 2026
All games will be played under USA Hockey Rules; including touch up off sides and no touch icing.Â
Two-line passes are allowed.
No Slap Shots are permitted; if a stick goes above the knees, the following face-off will be at the shooter’s defensive end.Â
Each team will be granted one, one-minute time out per game.
No overtimes will be played.Â
No more than ONE goal per person, per game, will be counted.Â
UNSPORTSMANLIKE BEHAVIOR AND UNNECESSARY ROUGHNESS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. A violation of this rule may result in denied registration for future Homer Jamboree tournaments.
If a goalie is ejected or cannot play, the team will be responsible for finding a replacement goalie see #13. One point will be subtracted from that team’s overall tournament standing for each occurrence.
Penalties:Â
Minor: 2 running minutes
Major: 5 running minutes
Misconduct: 10 running minutes
Game Misconduct: Suspension for remainder of game and next scheduled game.
Match Penalty: Immediate removal and suspension of USA HockeyÂ
Any player who receives three penalties in the same game shall be assessed a game misconduct penalty. This results in the player being suspended for the remainder of the game and the next scheduled game.
Games will be: 1 hour in length with:Â
 5 minute warm-ups,Â
 3, 17-minute, running time periods
 The last two minutes of the third period will be stop time, as time allows and to be directed by the officials
 There will be an ice cut between each game.
Scoring:Â
Win: 2 points
Loss: 0 points
Tie 1 point
Tie Breakers: If teams are tied after round robin play, the following rules will apply:Â
Team with the most number of tournament goals scored in regulation play
Fewest penalty minutes
Fewest goals allowed
Teams may not add or substitute players with the prior approval of a member of the Jamboree Committee. This is to maintain equitable skill levels among teams.Â
